Tourists on Uruguay travel experience a fairly uniform climate. Situated in the southern hemisphere Uruguay shares the same summer and winter seasons as New Zealand, meaning the peak summer time is in January and the peak winter time in July. With about 176 square kilometres the country has a population of around 3.5 million. Half of these live in the metropolitan area of Montevideo. It is largest city, largest harbour, and capital situated in the south.
The official name of the country is Oriental Republic of
Uruguay organised in a constitutional democracy and holds its place as
the most developed country in South America.
Spanish
is the official and dominant
language spoken by a predominant population of European heritage. The
roots go back to Portuguese
and Spanish
settlers.
