The federal constitutional republic of the United States of America consists of 50 states. This is a wide region, therefore we invite you to learn from the most knowledgeable traveller.

Forty-eight adjoining States and Washington D.C. are located in Central North America. There the Pacific Ocean borders the west and the Atlantic Ocean the east. Canada marks the north and Mexico the south. The north west of the American continent is taken in by the state Alaska, an US exclave, lying between the Bering Street and Russia to the east and Canada to the west. In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, some three thousand kilometres away, is the 50th state situated on an archipelago named Hawaii.

The English speaking country is with its population of about 308 inhabitants (in 2010) the third largest after the People’s Republic of China and India. The largest city, New York, is situated in the east and has an urban population of about 18.2 million after the 2010 Census. The capital district Washington D.C. is located in the east and has 5.4 million inhabitants in its metropolitan area.
