Travel England leads to an group of islands, the United Kingdom that forms a unitary state including England, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Scotland.
To the south England is separated from continental Europe by the English Channel yet is connected by the Channel tunnel to France. The surrounding waters are the Celtic Sea in the south west, the Irish Sea in the west parts Northern Ireland and England. Meanwhile the east coast is washed by the waters of the North Sea.
According to the 2008 estimates England has a population of 51.4 million on an area of 130,395 square kilometres. In comparison this is slightly bigger than New Zealand’s North Island and smaller than its South Island. The Capital is represented in England’s largest city London home to a population of 7.5 million.
New Zealand itself is one of the fourteen overseas territories of the United Kingdom. This results in the Queen withholding a symbolic position as New Zealand’s Queen and head of state represented ceremonial by a Governor-General with reserve powers.
