Train Vacations Reveal Thrilling
New Zealand Scenery

New Zealand scenery is well known for its beauty and New Zealand train vacations provide the comfort to simply enjoy. Panoramic views on an unfolding scenery combined with free hands to film or take photos are certainly tempting.

The Overlander train service starting from Auckland offers sweeping view through its panorama windows and its open air decks. With a rail pass the Overlander, Tranz Coastal, and Tranz Alpine rail are connected including a one way ferry transfer from Wellington to Picton or the other way round.

The North Island route passes farmland, the Tongariro National Park, Mount Ruapehu with volcanic plateau, the Raurimu Spiral, and river gorges. A ferry running between Wellington and Picton ships through the picturesque Marlborough Sounds.

In Picton the Tranz Coastal train follows the coastline, passing Kaikoura towards its destination Christchurch, South Island’s largest city.

While the Tranz Alpine train traverses the Canterbury plains towards the fascinating horizon of the Southern Alps. Their dominant appearance floods atmospheric changes into the scenery reflecting time of year, and day.

Reaching the Alps the route gains on drama. The railway leads through tunnels and crosses canyons, via bridges, in spectacular setting of the Arthur’s Pass National Park to the final destination, Greymouth.

A rail pass enables a stopover and travelling forward and backward within the agreed timeframe of two, seven, or fourteen days with one ferry transfer.

Search for accommodation while you explore on the North Island the city Hamilton, the Tongariro National Park, or the capital with its great reputation for being the country’s centre of art and culture. On the South Island the wine region around the Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura and a whale and dolphin safari, or exploring Christchurch may gain your attention.

Tickets to New Zealand train vacations book directly at www.tranzscenic.co.nz.

Once arrived in Greymouth at the famed West Coast try Ace Rental Cars for continuing to Fox Glaciers, Lake Wanaka, and Queenstown. Ace Rental Cars has branches in Queenstown and Dunedin. This lets comfortably combine car and scenic train rides.

From Queenstown a coach/ train service www.taieri.co.nz is found to indulge spectacular scenery on a railway to Dunedin. It goes back 100 years and until today spellbinds its passengers.
