The geographic location for Spain holidays is the south west of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. The peninsula is shared by Spain, Andorra to the north, Portugal to the west, and Gibraltar to the south.
Spain, the second largest country in west Europe, fills the
main landmass from about 500 thousand square kilometres. Its overall
population is around 46.7 million with 2009 estimates.
Spanish
is the only
official language. Though their are some regional languages recognised
like Aranese, Basque, Catalan/Valencian and Galician.
The Pyrenees a mountain range marks the northeast. Surrounding Andorra they form a natural borderline between Spain and France. Around the shores in the east and southeast wash the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Meanwhile the surf of the Atlantic Ocean pounds the north and west coastline.
The Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea comprise Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza, and Formentera form an autonomous province of Spain.
In the Atlantic Ocean the Canary Islands are found. They form another autonomous Spanish province. Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, Alegranza, La Graciosa and Montaña Clara are the island included.
Madrid in the heart of the country is with a population of more than 3.2 million it is largest city and capital.
