Seals modelled for our seal pictures at Wharariki Beach, sleeping lazily in the sun and just minding their own business.
On a New Zealand journey to the South Island we encountered these water inhabitants on a beach walk just below Cape Farewell.
To our surprise these animals handled visitors to their environment very relaxed. In fact they took no further notice of intruders.
The first impression we had, they are not alive. While approaching closer we noticed their breathing rhythm and finally one decided to return into the water. Moving quite heavily on land, in water they are incredibly elegant and fast swimmers.
