All year round commuters come to Piha Beach and enjoy this relatively unspoiled beach. During summer it is a bubbly place. Beach and surf lovers alike join in water activities like surfing, body-boarding and different shore activities from picnic to building sandcastle or just enjoying the sand between their toes or the view after climbing up Lion Rock.
North Piha and South Piha stretch from either side of this impressive rock. Each side has a surf club that watches over its visitors in the water between Labour weekend and Easter. Lifeguards mark watched beach stretches with red and yellow flags according the tidal conditions. Strong rips make it imperial to take their advice.
Numerous hiking tracks allow exploring bush, coast, secluded beaches, and waterfall with often stunning views to reward for the made efforts.
