Karkare Beach
The west coast beach Karekare became famous in1993 with the movie "The Piano" by Jane Campion.
Overall it is a destination popular in many aspects. Beach lovers indulge especially at low tide a vast stretch of sand beach opening up to the south in direction to Whatipu. Hikers seek the valley as starting point for one of many tracks on ridges along the coast or through bush.
