Terms and Conditions

• Rates are calculated on a daily basis, not 24 hours. The day of pickup is counted as Day 1 and the day of dropoff is the last day regardless of the time of pickup and drop off.
• The minimum rental age is 21 years. All intending drivers must present a valid full national driving licence, which has been held for at least one year. A current international driving licence must accompany driving licences issued in a language other than English.
• There is no extra charge for additional drivers. Minimum rental age and other requirements for additional drivers will be the same as for the renter. Additional authorised drivers must be notified to Mountain Rental and listed on the rental agreement.
• Comprehensive Motor Vehicle Insurance (MVI) including third party, public liability and windscreen, is included in our rates. An Accident Damage Excess (ADE) of NZ$1000 is required for drivers 25 years of age or over. NZ$1500 for drivers under 25 years of age. This bond will be fully refunded provided the vehicle is returned in a reasonably clean condition, without damage or involvement in an accident, without any liability to any third party, with a full petrol tank and all traffic offences paid for.
• Insurance does not cover water submersion, saltwater damage, tyre damages, incorrect use of fuel, damages caused by wilful conduct or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and costs to retrieve a bogged vehicle.
• NZ $500 deposit is required at the time of reservation.
  Note: The balance for all rentals starting in Auckland and Christchurch has to be paid in full 30 days before the commencement of the rental.
• Fuel is not included in our rates. Each vehicle is supplied with a full tank of fuel, which is refilled at the renter's expense on return.
• DRIVING FINES / INFRINGEMENTS
  We reserve the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines and/or associated administration costs. The administration fee per fine will be NZ $50.
• Vehicles have to be returned on the date, place and time as shown on the contract.
• No animal is allowed in the rental vehicle.
• No smoking inside the vehicle.
• The minimum rental period is 14 days.
• For one way rental, special conditions apply.
• No refund on unused days/early return
• Free airport transfer (pickup and drop-off)
• For long term rental (2 months or more) and low season, prices are negotiable

PICK-UP AND DROP-OFF:

Pick-ups and drop-offs are possible between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Earlier pick-up can be arranged on request. Late returns: from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, 25% of the daily rental charge is charged, thereafter a full day is charged.

FERRY:

We can pre-book a ferry between North and South Island for you if requested.

AVAILABILITY OF VEHICLE

If for any reason beyond our control, the reserved vehicle is not available, we reserve the right to substitute a comparable vehicle to the hirer. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund of any description. In the event that an alternative vehicle is not available, our liability is limited to a refund of all payments made for total hire days lost only.

Cancellation:

30 days = deposit retained 
29 - 20 days = 25% of the total reservation cost 
19 - 10 days = 50% of the total reservation cost
09 - 01 days = 75 % of the total reservation cost
No Show = 100% of the total reservation cost.

In all cases the minimum amount retained is the deposit.

• A basic insurance at NZ$ 16 per day is compulsory and covers your vehicle and third party property to NZ$ 2,000,000. The excess is NZ$2000
• A driver who is under 21 years of age or has held a driver's license for less than 12 months the excess is NZ$3000
• The hirer will be liable up to this amount for any damage caused in any one accident or for interior damage. The bond/excess will be taken on pick-up of the vehicle. This bond will be fully refunded provided the vehicle is returned in a reasonably clean condition, without damage or involvement in an accident, without any liability to any third party, with a full petrol tank and all traffic offences paid for. This insurance excludes windscreen and under floor damage.
• The windscreen can be insured for an additional NZ$7 per day.
• Optional Excess Reduction. An additional NZ$ 12. - per day (altogether NZ$ 28.-) will reduce the excess in case of damage to NZ$ 500. This insurance includes windscreen and under floor damage. A bond of NZ$ 500 will be taken on pick-up.
