Thank you, Lily this is a beautiful photo. I love the calm sea and this incredibly blue sky. It's so peaceful yet very vivid. - Beate

Surrounded by sea, activities around Auckland often involve spending time actively on or in the water. Something holiday makers and people living in Auckland and region love about the city.
The west coast is excellent to go surfing or body boarding along endless black sand beaches. The east coast with its calmer sea is suited to go swimming, kayaking, snorkelling or kite-surfing. Islands spread just off shore in the Hauraki Gulf invite for kayak tours and island explorations.
The more well known ones are the dormant volcano island Rangitoto, and Waiheke Island a wine growing capital. The latter is well known to be a good place to take a luxury break. Check out these special places to stay
Other water related Auckland activities
involve sailing cruises at lunch or dinner in candle light. Game fishing trips or dolphin discoveries are popular visitor attractions. Large cruise ships anchor often in the harbour while yachts anchor in marinas.
