When the native silvereye visits our garden the feijoa tree is in full bloom. Attracted to feed on the blossoms small flocks invade the tree. A loud excited "cli-cli-cli" accompanies their presence at different times throughout a day.

Their common name silvereye, wax-eye, or white-eye stems from the white silvery ring around their eyes seen on adult birds. The traditional Maori name tauhou means "stranger".

Prominent on both sexes alike is their small size about 12 cm and their olive green plumage with a grayish tint on lower neck and breast.
