Christmas Sky - January 2012 - NZ Photo Contest
(Auckland, New Zealand)
Colourful Christmas Sky
I took this photo of the sky above the Waitakere Ranges on Christmas night. I left the shutter open so that I got a gradient in the sky and the car's lights became streaky.

Matt this is a wonderful photo, that portraits the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park in Auckland’s west very peacefully. The Waitakere Ranges
and the west coast beaches become year round hot spots for many locals, and tourists alike. Easy walks and hikes to moderate or more difficult tramps along the coast or through untameable bush and regenerating rainforest past ancient forest giants, the kauri trees, are to choose from.
While others are intrigued by the vast black iron sand beaches
with their vivid surf where swimming and surfing is recommended only under the watchful eyes of local surf life savers. During warm summer evenings when the afternoon bustle has settled down and the sound of the cicadas fills still the air romantics are drawn to enjoy a picnic or a sunset walk.
