NZ Christmas Events

Hand in hand with New Zealand Christmas events goes the NZ summer. Sun, beach and blooming pohutukawa trees influence Christmas decorations and the way New Zealander celebrate.

Events small and big bring people and communities together. There are advent fairs, Christmas parades where schools and businesses walk along or accompany floats, Christmas in the park and other  family gatherings to sing along Christmas carols. Some great events everyone is looking forward to all year are the 'Farmers’ Santa Parade' and the 'Coca Cola Christmas in the Park' celebration in Auckland and Christchurch.

All leads to the most important day: Christmas day the 25th December.

This is one of the very few days in the country that everything is closed but a camp ground.

The New Zealand holiday season has a twofold meaning. For one it is Christmas. Secondly it is the beginning of the summer break in school and companies. Therefore it is the best time to travel for New Zealanders. This Christmas photo shows how some start their holidays off on a camp-ground with kiwi style Christmas celebration.

Everyone is looking forward to an exciting summer filled with vacating, outdoor, and beach activities. Many trade and service businesses close until the second January week. In the mean time the school resumes in the last days of January and the latest in the first week of February. For all tourism related services and retail outlets it is the busiest time of the year. It is peak travelling time for New Zealander and overseas tourists alike.
