The Yangtze River is recognised as the worlds’ third longest river. Starting out in Qinghai Province and running 6,300 kilometres east to meet with the China Sea at the municipality Shanghai. On its way it passes at the Three Gorges Dam the world largest hydro electric power station. In the province Yunnan the area of the Three Parallel Rivers is protected under the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Some name variations are the literal translation of long river Chang Jiang as well as Yangtse River, Yangzi River and Yangzi Jiang.
Macau or Macao is located in the south east of China. With an area of 28.2 square km and a population about 550,000 it is the place on earth with the highest population density. This region was the first and last European colony of the country. During the 16th century Portugal received rights of settlement in exchange for their service to free the area of pirates. After an agreement signed in 1978 Portugal handed the administrative power, in 1999, back to China. Obligation was to govern Macau democratically with exclusion of foreign and defence affairs for the following 50 years. The five autonomous regions of the People’s Republic of China are: Tibet, Guangxi, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and Ningxi. Their higher population of minority ethnic groups grants them the position of first-level administrative subdivisions.
Yangshuo a scenic county close to the town Guilin located in the Guangxi Province in the south of China. Surrounded by karst peaks it was reason enough to establish a growing mark in the recent climbing history. Like this Yangshuo developed the reputation of a foreigner village.
