Are you keen in doubling the fun of your New Zealand seabird photos and travel experiences?

The indigenous Maori named them Tara-nui. These grey, white, and black coloured seabirds are native to the coast of New Zealand. The sand is the place to nest, breed and raise young once.

On our last visit in January to Whatipu we were lucky to encounter them on the beach. The sea birds on the picture have still to reach their breeding age. Once reached their now stippled black and white crown feathers turn unicolour black. Included is the back of their head and the area just below their eyes to the base of a red bill. Grey tints the bird’s upper part and white the underpart. A Body of 51 cm rest on relatively short black legs.
